Landis+Gyr and The United Illuminating Company Agree to Contract Extension

ATLANTA, May 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Landis+Gyr announced a five-year contract extension with The United Illuminating Company (UI) to continue providing management of the utility's advanced metering network.

Landis+Gyr’s previous contract with UI will now be extended for five years through 2024 and include more flexibility for the utility to use all data collected from the advanced meters, including advanced outage/event data and voltage data, to name a few. This data will position UI to respond quickly to any advanced rate requirements, provide customers with enhanced electric usage information aimed to help customers better manage their energy usage, enable more robust storm and outage information and allow the utility to analyze the reliability and capacity of the grid. UI has used Landis+Gyr’s fixed network advanced metering system since 1999. In 2008, UI deployed a Gridstream™ RF two-way network and is now nearing 100K Landis+Gyr advanced meters.

“With nearly a third of our meter population using advanced two-way technology, it makes sense now to extend our contract with Landis+Gyr to fully utilize those assets well beyond the end of our current contract,” said Guy Cattaruzza, Senior Director of Revenue Meter Systems and Standard Field at UI. “UI’s approach to advanced metering is to build upon past metering investments thereby providing incremental and cost-effective advantages to our customers. Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream RF two-way network has met this requirement and is fully compatible with UI’s current and future metering infrastructure. Landis+Gyr’s strong track record and partnership with UI made this longer term commitment the right one for our company.”

Landis+Gyr provides UI with network management, hardware maintenance and data hosting services to support the utility’s advanced metering network.

“Our new agreement with UI is another example of the flexible service options Landis+Gyr is able to offer our utility customers. It provides a path for Landis+Gyr to continue building value for utilities in ways that extend past operational efficiency and directly support better service for consumers,” said Prasanna Venkatesan, Senior Vice President of Systems and Services at Landis+Gyr.
